SMS Opt-In & Messaging

Reckle is a free app for asking your friends for recommendations (restaurants, gear, contractors, and so on) and collecting their answers in one place. Reckle sends text messages only to people who have opted in through one of the flows below. Reckle never sends marketing or promotional messages, and never texts purchased or rented lists.

Opt-in path 1: signing up / logging in

A person signs up or logs in at /login by entering their own mobile number. Before a code can be sent they must tick the consent checkbox below. It is unchecked by default, and the “Send code” button stays disabled until it is ticked. Consent is also checked on the server.

Phone number(555) 123-4567
I agree to receive text messages from Reckle at this number, including login codes and notifications about recommendation requests from my friends. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out at any time. Consent is not a condition of purchase. See our Terms and Privacy Policy.

Opt-in path 2: a friend asks you for a recommendation

Before a Reckle user can send any “ask” (for example “sushi in Denver”) to personal contacts, they must agree to the texting terms below, attesting that each contact they ask has agreed to receive the text. They see this once, on a screen right after signing up, and can also agree, review or withdraw it anytime under Profile → Texting & consent. The checkbox is unchecked by default and the “Agree & continue” button stays disabled until it is ticked. Reckle records when they agreed and which version of the wording; the server refuses to send any ask without a current agreement, and withdrawing stops all asks until they agree again. Every ask screen links back to these terms.

Each contact gets one message that names Reckle and the friend asking, invites them to reply by text or use a link to a no-login response page, and explains how to opt out. If they reply with a recommendation, Reckle sends one confirmation text. If they reply STOP, Reckle never texts that number again.

Before you ask your friends
I confirm each person I'm asking is a personal contact of mine who has agreed to receive a one-time text from Reckle with my request, plus at most one follow-up if I try their recommendation. Message and data rates may apply. They can reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. See our Terms and Privacy Policy.
