Reckle ("we," "us") is a simple tool for asking friends for recommendations over text message, operated by Heard Mentality, Inc. This page explains what information we collect and how it's used.

Information we collect

When someone creates a request, we store the topic, optional location, and the phone numbers they choose to text. When a friend responds via their unique link, we store their recommendation and the phone number tied to that link.

In the Reckle iPhone app, you can choose a friend from your phone's contacts when sending an ask. Reckle only reads the contact you pick, and only saves that person's name and phone number to your Reckle contacts. We never upload your whole address book.

How we use phone numbers and SMS

Phone numbers are used only to deliver three kinds of messages: (1) login codes you request for your own number, (2) the initial text asking for a recommendation, sent when a friend asks you, and (3) a one-time follow-up text if your recommendation is marked "tried it." See SMS Opt-In & Messaging for how consent is collected. We do not send marketing messages. We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency depends on how often you're asked for a recommendation or your recommendation is used, typically no more than a couple of messages per request.

Anyone who no longer wants to receive texts from Reckle can reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for assistance.

Request and recommendation visibility

Requests and recommendations start public by default: they may appear in friends' activity feeds when the asker tries them. Public does not mean an open web directory. You can choose public or private for each request and recommendation, and set separate defaults in your profile. Private recommendations are visible in the app only to their author and the person they were sent to. A private request is available only to its asker and invited recipients; recipients cannot see each other's private replies. Invitation links grant access to the request to anyone holding the link, so avoid forwarding them. Replies to private requests always stay private. Making a request private also makes its existing replies private; making it public again does not republish those replies unless their authors explicitly choose public. Changing defaults affects future content, including text replies, without changing existing requests or recommendations.

Flagged requests and recommendations are hidden while their content and a report record are retained for review. For signed-in reports, the report records the reporting account. Blocking users is currently a placeholder and does not stop anyone from contacting you. Contact us below for help.

Data sharing

We use Twilio to deliver SMS messages. We don't sell personal information to anyone, and we don't share it beyond what's needed to operate this service.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
